Amelia the Couch Surfer and Super Chickadee

My contribution to Eileeinmd's Saturday's Critters #102.

I've recently put up a couple of pics of Amelia the Wolfhound couch surfing. She loved to do this as soon as she was big enough to jump on a couch. Here she is on November 28, 2014:

One short year for a wolfhound:

Some clouds in your coffee Lake Siri?

I'm also linking to Anni's I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Carolina Wren, you're so vain!

Invisible Bikes and Mountain Laurels

My contribution to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #88. I was going to count the suet cage as a 'fence...'

But I can go with a mountain laurel roundup instead. The front two look great.

Next over is a recent transplant from the side of the house, where it languished a couple years. All things considered, it's doing well.

And here's mountain laurel #4. In May, this one was doing the best of all of them. But then it developed this brown spot leaf disease over the summer, and it still has it. Does anyone know what it is, and what to do about it?

P.S. I'm also linking to N.F.'s Trees n Bushes 35.

Fire on the Mountain and Geese on Lake Siri

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 356 is Electricity.
I saw this when walking up one of the mountain roads on Sunday.

I also heard lots of sirens. Tuesday, I took a look at the source of that smoke. I heard an electrical problem is a suspect.

I'm also linking to Michelle's Nature Notes (#339).
These Blacknose Dace live in Warm Spring Run along with the guppies. (I tried to get a better picture of them, but they are quite wary.)

I was wondering how close the geese by Lake Siri would let me get...

Update: I'm also linking to Stewart's Wild Bird Wednesday 174. Here's Mrs. Downy Woodpecker at the suet feeder, and a Carolina Wren through the basement sliding doors.

My Old Shadow

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 355 is Old. Meet my shadow, we know that feeling.

This is also my contribution to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #87.

Oh my, Saturday Sunday already? I'm also contributing to Eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #101. And I missed Michelle's Nature Notes (#338), too. At least I'm not too late for Anni's I'd-Rather-B-Birdin!

Here is Amelia last Sunday. She's always loved to zoom up on that couch and stop at the top, just when it looks like she's going to fall right over:

Blast from the past: Amelia from February:

How about some orbs?

Common Checkered Skipper

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 354 is Down on the ground. This is a Common Checkered-Skipper, Pyrgus communis. I don't think I've ever seen one before.

This is my contribution to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #86. I don't think this little tree meant to flower in November, but it's pretty nonetheless.

Another shot of the flowers, and I'm also contributing to Michelle's Nature Notes (#337).

A Dog's Life

My contribution to Eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #99.

Here's another couple of shots of a Tufted Titmouse who wasn't interested in waiting for the suet feeder to be put up in the branches:

Many mornings in W.V., a chipmunk will come around looking for moths left over from fluttering at the sliding glass doors the night before. (They compete for those moths with the wrens.)

Finally, here are my sister's wolfhounds. It's ruff out there for a dog...

Tufted Titmouse plus Fall Color

My contribution to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #85.

I was going to hang the bird feeder from a coat hanger on the branch like usual, but I couldn't reach the twig I usually grab to start the process. Reason being, without leaves on the tree, the branches are higher up. Anyways, the birdies didn't want to wait, so I tried some pics this way.

Cropped:

Most of the leaves are down now, but there was still a little color left around Lake Siri:

And here's some more fall color from Columbus, Ohio a couple of weeks ago:

This is also my contribution to Michelle's Nature Notes (#336). I'm sorry I haven't been around to visit people much, I have been too busy with other issues.
